Lough Derg an inland sea surrounded by
counties Clare, Galway and Tipperary has hospitable harbours
on its shores that welcome the most discerning visitor. Lough
Derg and the twin towns of Killaloe and Ballina to the south
are mojor areas fo rwater sports and leisure e.g. sailing, boating,
skiing, wind surfing, etc. |
Lough Derg is classed as a mixed angling area and is
teeming with fish.
The historic castles, museums, and gardens in the
vicinity area worth a visit. There are walking and cycling routes,
golf courses and equestrian pursuits in the region to be savoured

The Shannon River as it exits the southern end of Lough Derg becames
a lively and turbulent river as it flows down to the sea.
At Ardnacrusha hydro - electric dam, a World Heritage Engineering
Site, two special navigation locks are installed that allows
the passage of boat traffic to and from Limerick City.
