Westmeath towns and villages
Athlone
Is the largest town on the River ÇShannon standing on the
boundaries of two counties Westmeath and Roscommon in the centre
of Ireland. It is a designated historic town and is commoly
referred to as ·The gateway to the west". Walkers can avail
of two historic town walking trails, or may start the Lough Ree
touring routes from here. |
Crookedwood
Is a picturesque villague located beside Lough Derravanagh.
This lake is associate with the most tragic pof all Irish
legens - the lake od the "Children of LI", who were
changed into swans by their jeaulus stepmother and were to
spend three hundred of their nine hundred years in exile on
the water od Lough Derravanagh.

Fore Village
Is in a valley between two hills. Here you will see the ancient
ruins of a Christian monastery with its "7 wonders". It
was St. Fechin who founded the ancient Fore Abbey around 630 A.D. |
Glasson
The "Village of the Roses", quiet apart from
being justly farmed for its beauty. It is one of those places
that seems to have it all.

Kibeggan
Village is home to one of the oldest destilleries in Europe,
set up in 1757 by the Locke family. The site they chose was
on the River Brosna, which provided water power to drive the
machinery.

Is a busy village and a centre for tradicional culture

Mullingar
Is the county town of Westmeath and home to the world famous
"Mullingar bronce and prewter". Mullingar is encircled
by the Royal Canal.

Multyfarnham.
Is an old world village located close to Lough Dernavaragh.
It is home to a beautiful Franciscan Friary, founded seven
